WATCH: Israeli tours teach about the Nakba

Some 700,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled from their homes in the 1948 war that led to Israel’s establishment. One organization is taking Israelis to visit the ruins of the abandoned villages, to learn about the Palestinian ‘Nakba,’ or tragedy.

The Guardian obit of Yizhar Smilansky, who wrote about what he saw:
      https://www.theguardian.com/news/2006/aug/24/guardianobituaries.booksobituaries

Yizhar was a dedicated Zionist, a Hebrew-speaking sabra born on Palestinian soil to a pioneering Jewish family. Yet his stories were brutally candid about acts of casual cruelty. Jews were perennially cursed by exile, says one character; how could they now “send other people into exile”?

Now all we need to is to have Palestinians and other Arabs from the five Arab countries come forward and tell about all the atrocities they committed against the Jews and their excitement in joining the officially proclaimed jihad against the Jewish Yishuv which swore to carry out a massacre rivalling the Crusades and the Mongols which Azzam Pasha, the head of the Arab League promised to inflict on the Jews.

And lest we forget the 1940’s pogroms in Iraq, Libya and Egypt.

Its funny how Europeans and Churches (yes, Christian Churches) think they can get Israel to commit national suicide by hiring locals to explain to Jews that defeating the Arabs in 1948 resulted in some Arabs having to move elsewhere.

Zochrot’s staff and board are israeli jews and palestinians. Your take on this is an attempt by outsiders (‘yes, Christian Churches’) to get ‘israel to commit national suicide’. If their funding is from christian churches it should hardly be a surprise – sure can’t imagine ‘cultural’ MK miri regev would grant funding to an organization that would teach israeli jews about the nakba. They certainly won’t learn any truth in israeli institutions of xenophobia and brainwashing.

“Zochrot’s staff and board are israeli jews and palestinians.”

Fine, fine, fine. We get it already. We too did some bad things during a war which we did not want and did not start.

But were we the only ones who did bad things? Judging by the silence of the likes of Zechorot’s staff, it appears that they think that Palestinian Arabs and their Arab allies were models of humanity. They didn’t even hurt a fly. They just minded their own business and became innocent victims of the eeeeevvvviiiiillllll Zionists who attacked them.

One has to come to that conclusion because Zechorot never mention Jewish victims who were murdered in various Arab riots like in Hebron in 1929. Like the Hadassah convoy which was ambushed by Arab militia and in which innocent doctors and nurses were massacred. Or of the expulsion of thousands of Jews from East Jerusalem by the Arab legion. Or of the cold blooded massacre of the defenders of Gush Etzion who were captured and were murdered in cold blood, with their hands tied behind their backs (ISIS style) by Palestinian militia. This is just for starters. It is by no means an exhaustive list of atrocities committed by Arabs against Jews. Yet organisations like Zechorot are silent about those atrocities. Why? What is their agenda? It really begs that question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Zochrot works from within, to challenge Israeli public’s preconceptions. By teaching the other side of history, Zochrot hopes to make a change from within.

You just hate that “other side of history” and that “from within.” In regards to a video about “the other side of history” you do your by now classic maneuver summed up here:

‘the right-wing tendency to respond to every unfavorable development by yelling “But the Arabs!” or “But the leftists!”’
            http://972mag.com/the-rights-new-spin-the-state-demolishes-only-jewish-homes/123183/

The “Jewish Nationalist” aka “Zionist” side of history gets taught in thousands of Israeli schools day after day and gets driven home in the media day after day, constantly, but you begrudge tiny little Zochrot telling the other side, not the only side, but the other side of a history far more complex than you will ever admit to. You do this constantly. “But what about the Arabs??!!” Well, OK, and what about the Jews too??!! Even on a tiny percentage of the didactic curriculum and the media airwaves.

“What is their agenda?” Immediately the “traitor” insinuation gets made. All because they are working to reconcile two irreconcilable narratives into a compromise solution. It never occurs to the likes of you that the Palestinians have to be shown some fundamental respect if you are to sit down and have true negotiations as opposed to “managing the conflict,” game-playing, stalling negotiations. The Israeli Right works overtime in every way every day to show the Palestinians maximum disrespect and force on them maximum humiliation. (Just read the posts of for example Ike, R5 and the like—they are all about humiliating the other side and glorying in their supremacy.) To make them feel constantly chased and put down and disrespected. Because the goal is not peace and reconciliation. It is maximalist land acquisition. If the Israelis are after peace and reconciliation and true negotiations towards a viable two state solution, then they are behaving as perfect idiots, and I don’t believe the Israelis are idiots at all.

Yea true. But the Jews don’t have to be shown respect. Right Ben?

Now tell me please where is the equivalent of Zechorot trying to show Arabs the Jewish side of the story Ben?

Nowhere of course and that does not bother you the least. Does it Ben? All you people want is for the Arabs to tell ONLY their story and to PAY Jews, or use IDIOT Jews to amplify it, huh Ben?

So here is the deal Ben. So long as this unbalance persists, people like me will remind propagandists like you what is happening. As soon as you point to Zechorot and Zechorot equivalents in BOTH societies, I will applaud both because I’ll know that peace is beckoning. That peace is around the corner.

Excuse me but are you really this obtuse and stubborn? Even I have a hard time believing it. There are a million Jewish Nationalist Zochorots trying to show Arabs the Jewish side of the story. You never cease to amaze me at your ability to miss the point and make my point at the same time. “PAY Jews, or use IDIOT Jews.” That’s anti-Semitic and racialist (“Jews are that way, and biologically and culturally primed to come at this a certain way, and if they don’t they are morally degenerate or defective specimens of their race, or all too typical specimens of their race.”)

“There are a million Jewish Nationalist Zochorots trying to show Arabs the Jewish side of the story.”

Yea, and I am the obtuse one according to Ben. Note the asymmetry which I keep on reminding Ben but which he keeps on deliberately overlooking:

            THE PRESENT SITUATION:
There are millions of Arabs, extreme leftists extreme rigtists and some stupid or mercenary Jews echoing the vilification of Jews. There is virtually no Arabs to remind Arabs of the evils that THEIR side committed against the Jews of Palestine and Jews in Arab countries.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE:
I would like to see organised Arab criticism of their own side a bit like how many Jews are willing to bad mouth our side.

Why would I like to see Arabs too criticising Arab behavior a bit like Jews are willing to criticise our behavior? I would like to see it coz it would balance things out. Arabs criticising Arabs would make the criticism of Arabs more credible in the eyes of other Arabs. As it is, they ONLY hear their own side’s propaganda against Jews and hear Jewish Israelis like me trying to remind them that Arabs are not all innocents with impeccable history against Israel and Jews (to put it mildly). Do you think they believe Jews telling them that Ben? Do you think I sound credible to them? I don’t. Hey Ben, even according to you I am just a Jewish propagandist who tries to make Arabs and leftists feel bad. You even accuse me of making antisemitic comments against idiot Jews like Zechorot. But am I antisemitic because I am critical of Jews who insist on shooting fellowJews in the foot (again to put it mildly)? No I am not. I am being very mild compared to other nations who are much more harsh towards their own kind whom they perceive as traitors. I just bad mouth those Jews for their lack of balance and foresight. Bad mouth and nothing more. On the other hand just look at what Hamas and the PLO do to those whom they accuse of betrayal. Or even what the Brits did after WW2 to those whom they accused of treason. Or the French, or the Americans. Need I go on?

Ben will now just pretend to misunderstand what I told him in this and my earlier posts or will just dismiss it without counter arguments. Ho hum. Never mind. I will not stop pointing out the obvious to Ben and his cronies. Just to balance things out in here in a very small way. Just so they won’t have everything completely their own biased way.

I don’t see how fellow Jews warning Jewish Israelis about their slouching towards self-destructive one state apartheid is traitorous. Shot through all this angriness is the triple confusion that the only possible framework for this is “our side” and “their side” and that criticism of “our side” is “bad mouthing” and this is a bad mouthing contest, and that (you insinuate this) what Zochorot and Breaking the Silence and even +972 do is “treason.” I agree that honest dialogue in truth and reconciliation terms is sorely needed but you’re not going to get it going much while brutally occupying them and stealing their land. Truth and reconciliation efforts did not get going before South African apartheid ended. One of your strikingly self-involved assumptions is that you can keep doing these brutal and dishonest things to them and they will come around *while you’re doing that to them* and say, hey fellahs let’s have a heart to heart about the wrongs that both sides committed. The Japanese have yet to honestly own up to the savage things they did on a mass scale to the Chinese and the Koreans and Australians and Americans and others during WWII. The Russians have yet to honestly own up to the savage things they did on a mass scale to a whole bunch of disparate people in all sorts of places during WWII and the Soviet era and come to think of it the Putin era. Come to think of it, the one single people that have honestly and fully owned up to the savage things they did in WWII are the Germans. The Chinese have yet to own up to the savage things they did and do to their own people and to the Tibetans. A whole bunch of African peoples have yet to own up to the savage things they did and do to other African peoples but they are making a start in places. The Israeli Jews have yet to own up honestly to the savage things they did and do to Palestinians. The Palestinian Arabs have yet to own up honestly to the savage things they did and do to Jews and Arabs. Other Arab nations have yet to own up honestly to the savage things they did to Jews and do to Arabs. There is all over a dearth of owning up to. This idea that, because +972 and Zochorot and Breaking the Silence own up to things, that somehow gives “The Jews” extra credit for owning up to things ,is fallacious. +972 occupies an absolutely miniscule portion of the Israeli and non-Israeli media bandwidth. Haaretz writers of all people are quoted as faintly deriding +972 as “irrelevant” in the Israeli media environment. This despite the fact that you are like a WWII signals intelligence agent tuned in by short wave radio frequency to its faint signals. Breaking the Silence is scorned and persecuted. (By the way a number of +972 writes such as Samah Salaime criticize Arabs in an organized way in regards to human rights, women’s rights. Even your bete noire, Hanin Zoabi, stands up for women’s rights in the Arab community.
            http://forward.com/news/israel/171218/haneen-zoabi-israeli-lawmaker-is-reviled-by-jews/
But I gather that is small beer to you.)

But you want us (and the Germans) to be the only ones who beat our chest in bublic and self flagellate. Not the Arabs. Not the “Palestinians”. Not the rest of the countries on the above list. Just little old us, right, Ben?

And what are your credentials for giving us advice? Your credentials are that you despise and hate us. But we should listen to you? No thanks, Ben. I stand by everything I said in my above posts. Sorry Ben, you are not persuasive enough.

            Thank you

            PS
Ya know Ben? All those other countries you mentioned to whom bad things were done in their wars? They were no slouches either. They too did some pretty bad things to their “others”. No one is angelic in wars. The best thing is not to have wars. But hey, our partners in war, your friends, the Palestinian Arabs, are not serious in wanting to make peace with us. They don’t even want to acknowledge the existence of our ethnic group. They claim that we are just a religion and they say religions don’t deserve their own state. So sadly, our state of war continues with them and so do every bad things that war entails. And the likes of you and Zechorot only make it worse because you give them a false hope that they will be able to wear us down so that eventually they will be able to make us another South Africa. Well guys, I gotta tell ya, you are all wrong. You will never wear us down. We are a very stubborn people you know and we know how to survive. And more than that. We won’t just survive but we will thrive. You will be the ones who will be worn out. We outlasted much more savage enemies than you lot are.

            Have a nice day.
