As citizens of countries to which Israel can’t deport them, the only right they have is to not be deported back to those countries. They can stay and be safe in the detention facilities that Israel has made available to them. Or they can leave to go elsewhere. There will be no pathway to permanent residency or citizenship. There will be no pathway to family reunification or any other means of bringing over their families. There will be no pathway to them staying here permanently in any way. Eventually, once their countries are in a better place they will all be deported. In the meantime we shall take no step so as to make their life so comfortable that they will never leave, nor any legal step that would provide them with the ability to resist leaving when the time comes when it becomes possible for them to be deported back to their own countries. Nor for that matter any step that would simplify integration in Israeli society. They are not immigrants. They are in the country either illegally or as asylum seekers, depending on where one is standing. In either case they have no right to claim a place in Israeli society or economy.

You won’t hear or read anything about this in the mainstream USA media.

US has enough of their own “new arrivals” to worry about. Recent political events suggest it is a matter of concern.

All the immigrants affected by the recent ban held visas, green cards etc, and still controversial. Trump will try it on with those coming across the borders and we’ll have to see what the public response is.

Probably because they are too busy writing about Trump deporting illegals.

I think all Israelis should (and do?) take great pride in being seen as a formerly oppressed minority that has successfully created a state of their own which is perceived as an aspirational model across Africa, Asia and South America. A beacon of liberty and hope for the world. Eat your heart out “Palestine”.

I’m rather disappointed by the response of supporters shown in your film. This is not activism. As far as I can make out, immigrants detained in the Negev are free to exit the facility during the day. Those held there seem to be the creme de la creme of refugees from their benighted lands. I’d like to see a tent “university” to build them up to highly attractive immigrants, whether to Israel or any other free country. It’s a disgrace to allow them to fester.

Merely showing up to “support” is a poor show. Where has citizen initiative gone in IL? Is is just consigned to settlers in the WB?

The Israeli left has let itself down for 40 years. No wonder public opinion is so much against them. The right in IL responds to action; not to bollocks of “the state will provide” when there is so much demand on resources.

How many Africans, Asians or South Americans have sought refuge in the racist, homophobic, misogynistic, corrupt and degenerate Palestinian authority or its evil sister regime in Gaza?

The Palestinians could not even bother to protest the slaughter of their brother Palestinians in the Yarmouk refugee camp in Syria. Not mention showing any discomfort with the fratricidal butchery of their Arab relatives in Syria… hundreds of thousands dead and millions uprooted as refugees. They can’t be bothered.

“They can’t be bothered.” This is one of your favorite racist tropes, Ike. How do you know? Do you talk to Palestinians? How do you know? What if people here said, based on information such as this by Jews for Justice,

The Origin of the Palestine-Israel Conflict Zionism and the Holocaust
          http://www.wrmea.org/jews-for-justice/the-origin-of-the-palestine-israel-conflict-zionism-and-the-holocaust.html

that Jews in Palestine couldn’t be bothered about their fellow European Jews, they just couldn’t be bothered, that’s how those Jews are”? What if someone went around with your insufferable occupier’s smugness and said this? How would you feel?

O, yeah? Why did tens of thousand of Jews in the Yishuv join the British Army during World War II to fight Germany, and why did so many young Jews joing the ETZEL and LEHI underground to fight against the British refusal to allow Jewish refugees fleeing Nazism into the country?

Yeah, well what about it?? So…what? Palestinian should go join Isis to fight Assad? Or go join Assad to fight Isis? Either way, to be called a “terrorist” by you? And the Lehi who fought the British weren’t “terrorists”? Because Jews can’t be terrorists? Why weren’t the Jews of Palestine or America marching in the streets against the National Socialists? Why didn’t they have it all figured out in real time with 20-20 hiindsight? But the Palestinians get smeared any cheap chance you get.

Now I understand where you and your friends at the misnamed “Jewish Voice for Peace” get their propaganda from….from cherry-picking rags like WRMEA who have discredited propagandists writing for them like Zogby and Gidon Levy (who’s own sons have denounced his uninformed views).

Ike you should actually read Gideon Levy. You’d learn a lot. One of the things Atalya Ben-Abba says in the Social TV video on the other page is that until her brother returned from serving in the territories and told her what he saw really going on with his own eyes, she had no idea. Gideon Levy is one of the few courageous Israelis other than at +972/Local Call (Amira Hass of course is another) who bother to go look for themselves and write about it. Whether his own sons lack his courage, and naysay him on account of his breaking the silence and not taming his pieces with an “even handed” and “patriotic” viewpoint, is utterly immaterial. What Levy’s sons may think does not change facts. The right wing viewpoint is so mainstream in Israel that his sons are something like teenage sons of a mainstream right wing American journalist disagreeing with their father in 1964 about the Vietnam War. Big deal.

Of course, can’t have those welfare dollars going anywhere but the deep pockets of the prime minister and his wife and the colonialist pigs living on Palestinian land. We know what your priorities are.

What about all the international handouts that have been disappearing into the Swiss bank accounts of the Abbas ans the rest of the Palestinian authority? Billions of dollars have disappeared. Abbas lives in a gigantic mansion. HAMAS is doing the same thing in Gaza.

          “What about” ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…………..
Abbas is an elderly man way past his sell-by date, only looking out for his own skin and not caring for his people, which makes him a perfect foil/tool for his israeli counterparts. Politics are for crooks. The world is full of ’em.
