  • 10 Palestinians killed in last 24 hours as deadly attacks continue

A seventh Palestinian succumbs to his wounds following Friday's deadly clashes on the Gaza border. Further shootings and attacks into Saturday morning show few signs that the surge in violence is abating. A total of seven Palestinians have now been killed as a result of IDF fire at protests along the Gaza Strip's border fence, which took place Friday afternoon. The confrontations killed six and wounded over 130 at the scene, several of whom were in serious condition. One of those, 22-year-old Jihad Salim al-Ubeid, succumbed to his wounds overnight. • IDF kills 6 Gazans, wounds over 130 as violence spreads

As violence continues to sweep across Israel-Palestine on Friday, protests in Gaza along the border fence turn lethal when IDF units open fire on demonstrators in the besieged territory. At least 14 Palestinians and four Israelis have been killed since the wave of violence began. At least six Palestinians were killed and more than 130 wounded during protests along the border of the Gaza Strip on Friday, as violence and unrest continued to sweep Israel-Palestine. • Voices without borders: Four young writers from Gaza tell their story

Young Gazans are finally getting an opportunity to present themselves to the world in their own words. +972 speaks to some of the participants in the 'We Are Not Numbers' writing project about hope, love, war and, of course, writing. “…and then you would think that whole years would go by, and you would still come to look through the cracks in the fence and would see the same ramparts, the same sentries and the same little corner of sky, not the sky above the prison but another sky, distant and free.” - Fyordor Dostoyevsky ------------------------- Just over a year…

  • Despite the devastation, Gazans see no alternative to Hamas

A year after Operation Protective Edge, I traveled from Israel to visit my family in the Gaza Strip, where Palestinians are suffering from high rates of unemployment, violence, and drug use. By Thair Abu-Rass This past week I experienced one of the most formative events of my life: a three-day visit to Gaza for the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which marks the end of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan. Entering the "largest prison in the world," as Gaza's residents call it, came after the Israeli authorities' eased access for family visits between Israel and Gaza. [tmwinpost] I am a quarter Gazan:…

  • In war, there is no safe place for Gaza's children

A new report details the harrowing reality for Gaza's children during last summer's assault. There came a point early on during last summer's Gaza war when it seemed we reached a nadir. Four children, all under the age of 12, were killed by an Israeli naval attack while playing soccer on a beach. The boys were directly struck by two shells, which also seriously wounded four other children. [tmwinpost] It was, as we now know, about to get infinitely worse for Gaza's children. A new report released by Defence for Children International-Palestine (DCIP) documents the consistent targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure…

  • PHOTOS: War-ravaged Gaza faces winter storm

By: Anne Paq & Basel Yazouri / Activestills.org Six months have passed since the last Israeli offensive left the Gaza Strip in a dire humanitarian crisis. The difficult storms of the past few months have affected those who were left homeless by Israeli air strikes,  specifically the thousands of internally displaced Palestinians who have been staying in shelters and are increasingly frustrated by lack of rebuilding. The sea remains one of the few open spaces where Palestinians can go to relax and overcome the trauma of last summer.   This is the second major storm to hit the Strip in the last few months. In November, severe…
