What we desperately need now is to go back to the basics and recognize that guaranteeing Palestinians' rights is the foundation for any political solution. A new poll reveals that following Trump's Jerusalem declaration there has been a drop in support for the two-state solution among both Israeli Jews and Palestinians in the occupied territories – with both communities dipping below the 50 percent level. Only Palestinians with Israeli citizenship who live inside the Green Line show overwhelming support for this solution. [tmwinpost] The poll also shows that in tandem with this ongoing downward shift, there is a significant rise in the hostility of…Read More... | 11 Comments
A first-of-its-kind bill introduced this week focusing on the rights of Palestinian children could pave the way for greater transparency and accountability in America's dealings with Israel. Members of Congress on Tuesday introduced a bill requiring the U.S. Secretary of State to certify that funds bound for Israel "do not support military detention, interrogation, abuse, or ill-treatment of Palestinian children." The proposed legislation, put forward by Minnesota Representative Betty McCollum, had ten co-sponsors when it was announced. [tmwinpost] Although that number may seem small, especially when measured against the 268 current co-sponsors of the so-called Israel Anti-Boycott Act, the "Ending Israeli Military Detention of Palestinian Children Act"…Read More...
The Government Press Office is trying to rescind Elias Karram's press credentials after he expressed support for the Palestinian cause. It hasn't done the same for uniformed Israeli-soldier reporters. Israel's Government Press Office announced Wednesday that it was revoking press credentials from a senior Al Jazeera reporter in the country. The GPO cited a statement he allegedly made over a year ago as its reason for revoking the credentials of Elias Karram, a Palestinian citizen of Israel from Nazareth. "As a Palestinian journalist in an occupied area or in a conflict zone, media work is an integral part of the resistance…Read More...
If Israel is not willing to relinquish military control over the West Bank, then it is saying that there can be no two-state solution. Benjamin Netanyahu last week promised that Israel will never relinquish security control over the West Bank, even as part of a two-state peace deal, which is to say that the Israeli army will occupy the Palestinian territory forever. [tmwinpost] “[I]n any agreement, and even without an agreement, we will maintain security control over the entire territory west of the Jordan River,” the prime minister said at an event marking 50 years since Israel conquered the West…Read More... | 12 Comments
The right to equality? The right to free movement in and out of the country? How about the right to freedom from arbitrary arrest and exile? Or the right to marriage and family? By Fady Khoury Everyone on Facebook is playing a game where they post nine concerts they’ve been to and one they haven’t. The idea is your friends have to guess which band you haven’t seen. [tmwinpost] I want to play too, but I've been to only two concerts in my life, both of which were Mashrou' Leila's. So I thought of a different way to play. Here…Read More... | 45 Comments
Israel leftists should not sit around and wait for the international community to save Israel from itself. There are no quick fixes. The way to bring about a better future for Israelis and Palestinians is to gradually reduce the ails of occupation. By Yariv Mohar It seems like more and more of my leftist friends feel that the solution to the occupation won’t come from inside Israel, which is increasingly radicalizing, but as a result of something external, some kind of international pressure — a deus ex machina, a tremendous foreign power, a UN resolution, the boycott, isolation or a combination…Read More... | 5 Comments

A man leading an occupying state, a racist state in which mixed marriages are protested, doesn’t get to teach lessons to others. Mr. Netanyahu, stop exploiting the Holocaust at every political opportunity; pick up a book and learn that we weren’t there in those darkest days of European and Jewish history. On the eve of a historical day for the Palestinian people, when the international community has finally figured out that there is no point in waiting for Israelis to recognize their neighbors’ right to independence, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu chose to preach to the Europeans – to teach them…Read More... | 69 Comments
+972 speaks with Suhad Bishara, of Adalah - The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, about the challenges of fighting for Palestinian rights in Israel and deciding when not to take legal action in Israeli courts – if doing so would undermine the Palestinian narrative. When looking at Israel's Prawer-Begin Plan to evict tens of thousands of Bedouin in order to free land for Jewish development, attorney Suhad Bishara sees a second Nakba coming. Bishara, 42, is Adalah’s acting executive director and the organization’s director of land and planning rights. Originally from Tarshiha, a village in the northern Galilee…Read More... | 11 Comments
Israel's policy in East Jerusalem continues to be a double game: It does not provide Palestinian residents with services it is obligated under its own law to provide, but will not allow anyone else to fill that void either. With the Palestinian population at 38 percent and growing, Israel is just putting off the inevitable menacing choice between formal apartheid, or becoming a minority in its own "undivided capital." By Zvi Benninga The Israeli government, which officially maintains that Jerusalem is a united city (not only united but eternally so), continues to perpetuate a discriminatory policy against the city’s Palestinian residents,…Read More... | 8 Comments
The activist tells of her experience being held for hours, harassed and intimidated by Israel Security Agency officials - for doing nothing illegal or suspicious. By Leehee Rothschild I arrived at Luton airport for my flight back to Israel, after spending one month in the UK and France, participating in Israeli Apartheid Week and BDS events. That, along with my ongoing activism for Palestinian rights, made me a security risk of the highest level for the Israeli state. The troubles began at the Israeli security counter before check-in. I answered all the questions correctly: “Did you pack alone?” "Yes.” “Has…Read More... | 61 Comments
This week has seen a flurry of information about the Israeli army’s conduct in the West Bank. Many of my reports on this site concern this upsetting topic. Just when you think that you can't be surprised again by the violent impunity of Israeli soldiers, a new video emerges from the field, leaving you shocked. In the above video, you will see an Israeli officer - not a regular soldier but an officer - pull his weapon on a Palestinian subject in the southern West Bank city of Beit Ummar. Shocking in itself, this is not an isolated violation by this…Read More... | 41 Comments
