  • Jewish activists arrested for protesting New York pro-Israel parade

New York's annual, lavishly-funded Celebrate Israel parade was interrupted by scores of American Jewish activists, several of whom were arrested in the process. Seven Jewish protesters were arrested in New York on Sunday afternoon as over 100 activists disrupted the annual Celebrate Israel parade. The event, which sees thousands of participants march down Manhattan's Fifth Avenue accompanied by elected officials such as Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio, has received nearly $800,000 in funding from the Israeli government over the last seven years. [tmwinpost] The counter-demonstrations were held by Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow, who blocked the progress of…

  • The decline of Christian Zionism

America's largest Christian Zionist organization boasts about its numbers. But while their influence is a given, many Christians are slowly but surely seeing the justice of the Palestinian cause. Text and photos by: Ryan Rodrick Beiler/Activestills.org Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the largest Zionist Christian organization in the U.S., recently sent an email blast celebrating the milestone of “2 million members.” The Washington Post’s right-wing blogger Jennifer Rubin dutifully reported on the CUFI press release, which included an additional list of impressive numbers: According to CUFI, it has “driven hundreds of thousands of emails to government officials, held 2,162 pro-Israel events in cities…

  • PHOTOS: 'Christ at the Checkpoint' challenges Christian Zionism

Last week's Christ at the Checkpoint conference in the West Bank town of Bethlehem brought evangelical Christians together with their Palestinian sisters and brothers to ask what their faith has to say about the Israeli occupation. Christian Zionists aren't happy about their answers. Text and photos by: Ryan Rodrick Beiler/Activestills.org Two of the most potent forces insulating Israel from any political accountability for the occupation are right-wing lobbying groups, most notably AIPAC, and the Christian Zionist movement of which the largest U.S. organization is Christians United for Israel (CUFI). Recent months have seen cracks in AIPAC’s influence, most notably defeats…

  • Glenn Beck’s "Restoring Courage" rally in Jerusalem ends with a whimper

Could a dull event in Jerusalem, in front of just 1,000 people, spell the end of Glenn Beck? It must have been pretty rough for Glenn Beck to see this: After months of preparations, hours of television and radio talk all geared up for the big day, tons of merchandise manufactured, Glenn Beck could just about muster over a thousand people at his “Restoring Courage” last night in Jerusalem. I can’t help but think that this flop might be a lethal blow for this guy. After getting kicked out of FOX and then his decision to veer even farther to…

  • Glenn Beck to announce: “Ani Haredi! I am an orthodox Jew!”

Not to be out-maneuvered by his new partner in the evangelical business, Glenn Beck has decided to raise the stakes in the battle with Pastor John Hagee over who can pander more to the Jews and Israel. It was only weeks ago, that Hagee invited Beck to the annual Christians United for Israel conference, where Beck had the audacity - on Hagee’s home turf - to declare “I am a Jew!” Little did Beck know that when he invited Hagee to the “Restoring Courage” event that took place this Sunday in Caesarea, his mentor would fight back in style and…

  • Poll: Most Israeli Jews won't accept Jesus as Messiah

According to the poll, only 20% of Jews were shocked and angered to find out they were just “pawns” in the Christian fundamentalist’s plan On the heels of Glenn Beck’s visit to the Knesset last week and ahead of his keynote speech this week at the 2011 Christians United for Israel (CUFI) Washington summit, +972 magazine commissioned a poll on Israeli attitudes towards the Rapture and the role of Jews in the event of Jesus’ return. The poll, conducted by Dr. Tina Kemach, shows that a majority of Israeli Jews, 74.3%, have no intention whatsoever of accepting Jesus as the…

  • Im Tirtzu and the eternal fire of damnation

Im Tirtzu's acceptance of funds from Pastor John Hagee is just one example of the questionable and dangerous alliance Israel has made with Christians who are far from being "friends of Israel." While Im Tirtzu's Ronen Shoval continues to rant self righteously about how "leftwing" organizations need to be probed about their foreign funding, he forgot to mention a little donor his movement once benefited from called JHM (John Hagee Ministries). Pastor Hagee founded Christians United for Israel, an evangelical group that declares itself Zionist and believes Jews must rule the "Land of Israel" to enable the Second Coming, when…
