  • The Right's handbook on American-Jewish loyalty

Jerusalem Post's deputy editor wants Jews to put Israel before the interests of their own country, while Daily Beast's Eli Lake demands that Israelis stay out of the debate on Israel There is a heated debate going on in the US regarding the application of the term "Israeli Firster," meaning a person who puts Israel's interest before those of his own country. Some people argue that the term itself is anti-Semitic; the Israeli right, on the other hand, explicitly expects Jews to be loyal to Israel first and foremost, even if it means confronting their own society. Caroline B. Glick,…

  • Jerusalem Post fires Larry Derfner over blog post

The Jerusalem Post fired its last prominent progressive columnist over a controversial blog post, without even offering him the possibility to apologise; meanwhile, its ultra-right writers enjoy complete unaccountability. This is a watershed moment for the once-respectable publication. News came in earlier today that the Jerusalem Post fired Larry Derfner, its last remaining prominent progressive columnist, over a post Larry wrote on his private blog, Israel Reconsidered (proper disclosure: I joined him as a co-author on the blog a few months ago). In the post, Larry expressed the not uncommon observation that the root cause of Palestinian political violence was…

  • J Post apologizes for editorial following Norway attack

It took them almost two weeks, but the Jerusalem Post finally apologized for the crazy editorial in which the paper called upon its readers to use the opportunity created by Anders Brievik's terror attack to discuss Europe's immigration policies. Perhaps Brievik’s inexcusable act of vicious terror should serve not only as a warning that there may be more elements on the extreme Right willing to use violence to further their goals, but also as an opportunity to seriously reevaluate policies for immigrant integration in Norway and elsewhere. Better late than never, I guess. Still, even in this apology there is…

  • Free speech, Caroline's glitch, and other Jerusalem Post ditties

+972 is hosting today an op-ed written by B'Tselem chief Jessica Montell, in response to particularly insidious accusations levelled at the organisation by The Jerusalem Post star columnist, Caroline Glick. Montell's op-ed doesn't mince words - she calls Glick "a hack journalist who parrots any drivel" - but neither, to be fair, did Glick. Among other things, Glick claimed that a Palestinian shepherd whose complaint of a settler attack was monitored by B'Tselem "admitted he made the attack up", a claim the shepherd has since consistently denied. She also accused B'Tselem of forging a video documenting a settler attack on Palestinians:…

  • B'Tselem chief: "Caroline Glick a hack who parrots any drivel"

by Jessica Montell, B'Tselem | This op-ed is a response to Jerusalem Post columnist Caroline Glick. Read more "Free speech enables us to speak the truth, even when such truth is harsh. So for example, I am free to say that Caroline Glick is a hack of a journalist, who parrots any drivel that suits her extremist ideological agenda without having the basic journalistic integrity to check her facts." <br> I'm going to let you in on a little secret: human rights organizations are such big fans of free speech that they are willing to pay a heavy price for…

  • Wild Card - part V: If you can't beat 'em...

Abu Mazen threatens, Netanyahu responds, the right wingers go berserk and Haaretz pundit has a strange plan: if you can’t beat the wild card - join it. Plus - a small surprise The talk about unilateral moves by Palestinians was all over the media the past few days - but unfortunately, still little talk about the Wild Card (U.S. recognition of such a move). Still, even a little is better than nothing. We’ll keep waiting for a leading pundit to pitch it and for an official American response against or for the Wild Card. But there's a surprise at the…

  • Diaspora Museum to honor site responsible for Obama-hating clips

Caroline Glick's "Latma" site will receive special honor from the museum on its yearly board of governors meeting next week The Diaspora Museum in Tel Aviv is about to honor this week the people behind the rightwing satire and media site Latma for the "we con the world" video they produced in the aftermath of the IDF raid on the Gaza-bound flotilla. The evening will be hosted by the celebrated Liberal writer and TV pundit, Yaron London. I must admit that when I saw this item for the first time on Richard Silverstine's Tikkun Olam blog, I found it hard…
