It's the occupation and Israeli bigotry that are anti-Semitic

What we do to the Palestinians and Israeli Arabs – in the last two days, for example – has caused more damage to the Jewish people than anything since the Holocaust.

Who knows? Maybe the Jordanian judge, Raed Zueter, killed by Israeli soldiers Monday, went mad from grief over his critically ill 5-year-old son lying in a coma, and really did attack the troops, and maybe they truly had no choice but to kill him in self-defense. Or maybe there was no such attack, maybe there was just an argument and the soldiers got a little trigger happy, not for the first time. Reportedly, there are eyewitness accounts for both versions of what happened at the Allenby (or King Hussein) Bridge border crossing from Jordan into the West Bank yesterday.

And maybe Sael Saji Darwish, the 20-year-old Palestinian killed by Israeli soldiers the same day, really was throwing rocks at passing Israeli cars near the settlement of Beit El, which was built close to Ramallah. Or maybe he was just tending his goats; again; there are contradicting accounts.

But even if the soldiers at the border crossing fired at the judge in self-defense – a possibility, but by no means a certainty – why are Israeli soldiers controlling who comes into the West Bank from Jordan? Are Palestinians controlling who comes into Israel?

The funeral of Saji Sayel Darwish, killed yesterday by the Israeli army forces, March 11, 2014. (Yotam Ronen/Activestills.org)

And even if the young Darwish was throwing rocks at Israeli cars, was it necessary to kill him? And why was he throwing rocks at Israeli cars? If Palestinians had gobbled up the land around Tel Aviv, Haifa and every other Israeli city for Palestinian settlements, and if a Palestinian army and Shit Bet were controlling the lives of Israeli Jews for a half-century, would Israeli Jews throw rocks at passing Palestinian cars?

Today, Tuesday, the Knesset enacted a new law sponsored by Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman and whose overriding purpose is to keep Israeli Arabs, who are 20 percent of the population, out of the Knesset.

We usurp Palestinian land, we rule their lives at gunpoint, we kill them when they get mad and often when they don’t get mad, and even in “democratic Israel” we treat Arabs as fourth-class citizens – and now we’re making a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise them.

This is a democracy? This is Mississippi circa 1961. You don’t like the term “apartheid?” Well, here’s Nobel peace laureate Desmond Tutu in a statement he made Sunday for the opening of Israel Apartheid Week:

I have witnessed the systemic humiliation of Palestinian men, women and children by members of the Israeli security forces. Their humiliation is familiar to all black South Africans who were corralled and harassed and insulted and assaulted by the security forces of the apartheid government.

And people are saying that boycotting Israel is anti-Semitic? It’s the occupation and Israeli bigotry that are anti-Semitic. The occupation and Israeli bigotry have done more damage to the Jewish people than anything since the Holocaust. The occupation and Israeli bigotry have shamed the Jewish people like nothing in our history. They’ve changed us from an innocent people not into an “imperfect” one, but into a guilty one. They’ve turned us into a strong nation that tramples the weak – the mirror image of history’s anti-Semites. They’ve turned the Jews of Israel into the very thing that Jews have always hated.

Short of annihilating us, what could be more anti-Semitic than that?

Hey, Shachalnuir, that didn’t take long. You put your foot in your mouth again, you traitorous little court Jew who works for the enemies of the Jewish people.

Then again, you are probably not even Jewish. After all this is the internet and people like messing with the minds of their enemies. You already hinted as much in one of your posts elsewhere. What did you say your Palestinian friend said? That the Palis won’t drive us into the sea. They will drive us mad and make us fight amongst ourselves. That sounds like a real story to me. And you are either his instrument. Or even more likely, you are HIM. You “funny little man”.

“the Knesset enacted a new law sponsored by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and whose overriding purpose is to keep Israeli Arabs, who are 20 percent of the population, out of the Knesset”

So a threshold of 3,25% for a population of 20% is to kick out Arabs leaders outside of the Knesset? Are you serious? In the majority of the European countries there are a threshold at the same level or higher ! There will be Arabs MK in the next Knesset and probably more than in the actual one ! The only thing this threshold do is to force all this small parties to merge in 1 or 2 ! A bigger party has more chance to join a coalition than this small parties…and possibly more voters if he has chance to join a coalition.. And the new law give the possibility to parties who don’t have this limit to give their votes to a party with more than 3,25% !
      France has 12%,Belgium 5%, Norway 4% etc… !
Is that Mississipi 61 or apartheid?

“This is a democracy? This is Mississippi circa 1961. You don’t like the term “apartheid?” Well, here’s Nobel peace laureate Desmond Tutu in a statement he made Sunday for the opening of Israel Apartheid Week”

So You try to merge Israelis Arabs and Palestinian of the West Bank? And you don’t see where you are wrong? 0_0

“we treat Arabs as fourth-class citizens – and now we’re making a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise them”
Like what? Equal right to vote? Special funding for Arabic students? Arabic as seconde official speaking? The freedom of religion? Entrepreneurship? Second TV public channel in Arabic? To have the better level of life for Arabs in the middle east?

Yes not all is beautiful,Israeli bigotry (like to rewrite Arabic name with Hebrew translation in arabic) and racism exist in this country. But th e principal problem of the Arab community is integration of Arab women in the Labour market too long because of traditions (it begin to change).

Occupation, settlement exist for the west bank. And it’s so horrible you don’t need to invent more or compare with Missipi 61, apartheid. The only separate system who exist is in the West bank, not Israel, Gaza, or in the Golan heights…It’s enough a shame, you don’t need to create fake links, lies….Israel and Palestine have the right to exist, there never be one state. The only thing we need no do is to stop peace talks and withdrawal from the West Bank like for Gaza, Palestinian decide of their future,it will be not our problem anymore.

Besides some Israeli bigotry and racism, all is beautifull in Israel, and Palestinians are treated like equals.

        Sounds like krypto-fascism to me.

Nethanyahu this morning had to “regret” the shooting, and no footage released by the IOF.

That means the Jordanian lawyer was shot in cold blood.

Very bad timing though, and it doesn’t look like Jordan and the Palestinians are gonna let this pass silently.

      Karma is a b#tch.

I truly believe that many Israeli Jews, while of course professing to the contrary, secretly harbor an admiration of the Nazis and their methods, and wish – again in secret – that their country had an ounce of Nazi resolve in it. We see evidence of this mindset every single day.

When the army shoots a Palestinian teenager – which has become a pretty common occurrence of late – most Israeli Jews don’t even bat an eyelash, and many, openly and unashamedly, cheer.

Now the army has killed a Jordanian judge, and this is something that catches our attention. Not, heaven forbid, because of the moral turpitude of the act of killing an Arab, but because he was a judge, and his murder is a diplomatic can of worms.

We know that, contrary to his sanctimonious words of regret at the Jordanian’s killing, Netanyahu secretly felt happiness. How do we know this? 1. The man was an Arab. 2. Netanyahu is a right-wing Israeli Jew. It’s that simple.

Question: “And even if the young Darwish was throwing rocks at Israeli cars, was it necessary to kill him?”

Answer: with a heavy heart and tears in my eyes: YES. Absolutely.

Reason: ambushing and throwing stones at unsuspecting motorists on a highway is deadly and can cause multiple deaths of adults and infant/whole families and lead to carnage on the highway in just ONE blow! This evil phenomenon MUST be rooted out! The friends of Darwish they who send them are on notice.

Anyways, here is what is what Larry Derfner and other contributors here need you to do: (a) state your opinion and (b) give the reasons why you disagree with me. Nothing more. Nothing less. You do have what it takes to do that, no? Well then, let’s hear your arguments. The audience is waiting. And the clock is ticking.

Ginger – Israeli settlers have thrown rocks at Palestinian cars, have beaten Palestinian farmers. So you must agree that they too should be shot and killed on sight. If you don’t agree then it is clear that you value the life of some more than others as you operate from a double standard.

Israeli settlers have thrown rocks and stones at Palestinian kids on their way to school, at women, at children, at farmers tending their fields.

If you doubt that the settlers are throwing rocks at cars I suggest that you Google “Israeli settlers throw rocks at cars.” The evidence is there. Now tell me. Should these settlers be shot and killed. Say, “Yes.” or admit that you are a hypocrite and a racist.

Jan, my position is this: (a) anyone, Gentile or Jew, who has REASONABLE fear of imminent death or great bodily harm has the right to use lethal force against the source of that harm; (b) third parties/security agents may also exercise that right on behalf of any person who as aforementioned is endangered.

I heard you Shachalnur, but I take no offence. How are you and your kids doing today? I am sure you all are fine and healthy. That’s what all fathers (and I believe that you are a good and protecting father) want: to be able to put their whole family in a car and move from point A to point B and return home safely, without a gang of killers ambushing them on the highway, at high speed, with a hell of huge rocks, and forcing their car to crash and tumble over several times crushing every occupant – father, mother and infant children – to painful deaths. A father like you, I am most sure, will (a) protect his kids at all cost and (b) won’t let them ambush motorists on a highway without fearing that they will end up killing multiple individuals or get killed themselves. Sael Saji Darwish was TWENTY years old. He knew exactly what he was doing, i.e. the same thing the even younger blood thirsty Amjad Awad and Hakim Awad set out to do.

A good parent would not bring his kids to live in occupied territory in a settlement that is illegal under international law. A good parent would tell his kids that we don’t belong on the other side of the Green Line and that we have been hurting the people who live here and because of that many of them don’t like us. A good parent would want to keep his kid safe.
A good parent would work to end the damned occupation and bring his kids up to know that one group of people is no better than another group of people.
BTW, where is your proof that young Darwish was throwing rocks? If your information comes from the IDF they are well known liars and not to be trusted.

The about 400.000. Jewish families living in Judea and Samaria in their cities and towns are excellent parents, while your only proof to the contrary is that they live across what you call the “Green Line”, (GL). The GL is NOT a border and the Palestinians know that (a) there will be NO return to the GL in any future agreement delineating the borders and (b) when- and after said agreement is reached, Jews will continue living in said cities and towns in Judea and Samaria and prosper. Any Arab who thinks he/she has the right to- and sets out to kill Jews in Judea and Samaria to achieve political goals, will end up dead in the process. Anyone, including yourself Jan, who supports the notion that Arabs have the right to kill Jews in Judea and Samaria because they live in “settlements” which he assumes “are illegal” under what he calls international “law”, may not cry foul when his Arab killers are shot dead while trying to kill others! Any person who supports what you support, is the racist!

What the hell do these events have to do with Judaism, antisemitism or bigotry?

If you don’t want the occupation and think it’s the downfall of Israel, you should do your utmost to convince the Palestinians to reach a settlement with Israel. It’s that simple.

You can’t and you know it. So, despite a century of this rejectionism of the Jewish national right to self-determination, you are left blaming Israel. It can’t possibly be the Arabs’ fault!

Why does Israel control the Jordanian and “West Bank” border? Because it controls Judea and Samaria. When it doesn’t control borders, things like thousands of rockets, guns and bullets are smuggled in, just like in Gaza. Simple.

Why do we have soldiers with guns present among Palestinians? Because of tangible and real threats to Israelis’ security. Israel is in there because when it walked away, it got thousands of sniper attacks and dozens of suicide bombings. When Israel moved back in, the numbers diminished to a point where only 11 checkpoints remain. Simple.

These aren’t even complicated questions, Larry. More to the point is this: you could neutralize Israeli claims about security concerns by showing Israelis that they aren’t, in fact, in danger. You could end the occupation by establishing a compromise with the Palestinians (no, Netanyahu wouldn’t have an out if a realistic deal was put on the table, “Jewish state” or no “Jewish state” in the preamble).

You could have the Israel you want if you could just convince the Palestinians to do something they haven’t done for a century. Accept that Israel can and should exist as a state for the Jewish people and live in security. You are attacking the wrong side. Accidents and mistakes are tragic and should be avoided, but at the end of the day Abbas can say no and no and no and no and then have Obama tell us that Abbas is a peacemaker. Instead of adding to the cacophony of bullshit, Larry, why don’t you present the Palestinians and their supporters with the type of tough love and demands you make of Israel?

Well Ginger. I think your reasoning is abit islamophobic as well as naive.
If I imagine myself having grown up under brutal occupation: Witnessing nocturnal home invasions, arrest/torture of children, killing and maiming of peaceful demonstrators, harrassment and humiliation at checkpoints, the creeping ‘annexation’ of my parents’, grandparents’ lands for illegal settlements, seeing settlers kill and throw stones with impunity, my land carved up by walls and ‘settler roads’ on which I’m not permitted to drive….. Well Ginger it might not take “72 virgins” to convince me to chuck a few stones if I could see no future.
This is why my Israeli and other Jewish friends volunteer in the West Bank to protect Palestinian lands, to protect children from settler attacks and to treat PTSD in child victims of the IDF are so important to Israeli security.
If you destroy the possiblity of a Palestinian state, you condem Israel to either expanding apartheid or loss of the “Jewish State”.

    13. I don’t see much use in feeding the anti-Semitism label by attaching it to Israeli Jews or, perhaps more precisely, various Israeli laws and policies. All that will happen is that others will find “better” things to label anti-Semitic, the present uses seen as warped or “self hating.”

Yes, it is very bad out there. My feeling is that, notwithstanding Kerry and Obama, things will get worse, partly because the ruling coalition, in its various heads, continues to increment forward a right nationalist conformist view of Israel and beyond. But I also suspect Obama, being a technocratic believer in reality, will not give up immediately.

So we have deaths, and there will be more; we have laws, and their will be more; and one waits for the inevitable cracks in right nationalism. Charging anti-Semitism within Israel is likely to hide those cracks through indignation. I think it better to decry the common use of “anti-Semitic” to deflect critique.

WRONG, Dean! (1) Jews form a major backbone of the United States Of America, (as they DID in Germany before a government turned on a small part of its unsuspecting citizenry and targeted it for mass murder, etc.). Jews are a catalyst of change, progress and enhancement of humanity in every society they live(d). (2) Jews are neither fearful of anyone, nor did Jews steal anything. The fact is that your Arab fathers and forefathers, supported by five Arab armies of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Egypt launched numerous wars of annihilation to destroy the Jews. But a few thousand Jewish men and women stood their ground, fought back and defeated hundreds of thousands of all male Arab-soldiers and took back what is- and has always been the ancestral homeland of the Jewish People. (3) Your post suggests that you are not an “American”.

If we bring just a fraction of our force to bear, the Arab-world will vanish, just like that. But Jews are different from the Arabs, for we live and let live. We feed our enemies at the same time said enemies are fighting to destroy us and killing as many of us as they can. We defeat our enemies on the battle field, but leave said enemies standing – to fight us another day. You guys are very lucky to have Jews as your enemies. If Jews have the same nature as Arab-Muslims, the story will be much more different today! Think about it.

My advice; don’t have children. The World needs to grow up and put down its guns. That starts with the richest, best armed.

            I second that.

The truth scares the pants off these people, Ginger. That is why they are so annoyed by what you are saying and that is why they are trying to silence you so desperately.

Keep up the good work and show them off for the petty little fascists that they are.

“George Smiley”, alias Bob Wisby, Alias Winston Smith, alias Reza Lustig, alias etc. My positions are very clear. I am sure that all of you on the anti-Israel/anti-Jewish front see me as a threat. I have no apologies for that. For the rest, I have regard nor respect for anyone who uses multiple identities to follow an individual around on line to launch personal attacks and does not even attempt to offer counter arguments. It not only depicts cowardice but reveals a much deeper psychiatric issues. If you are interested in debate (a) use ONE identity (using multiple identities to follow me around crosses the line and makes you a stalker), (b) offer your opinion and arguments (guilt-trips move me not). I will debate you anytime, anywhere and defeat you. I told you that before (when you were still Bob Wisby) and already made good on that promise (and as such forced Bob Wisby to disappear), remember?

Desmond Tutu is an idiot. So are you, JG.

My god, this Ginger Eis contributes absolutely nothing intelligent to this comments section. She only manages to dumb down and render crude the dialogue, attempting as she does to bring it down to the usual Jerusalem Post level of petty, crude, reactionary sniping. So tiresome and a waste of time. She should be ignored. Like an annoying dog barking, don’t reward it with attention and it will eventually go away.

          Ginger

Keep up your good work. The more the annoying person who camplains that YOU are annoying complains, the more it is obvious that you are doing a good job.

People such as him are truly fascists. They hate anyone who disagrees with them. And they hate Israel.

Sharon, I could not disagree more. Ginger does a service by exposing the trolls for what they are
