IDF worries loose orders may grant Palestinians PR victory

Our brave forces are getting ready for the Nakba memorial demonstrations, and this time they received special orders. Israel Hayom, as well as Maariv, reported that “the IDF thinks a picture of a dead Palestinian will serve the Palestinians among international public opinion”, and therefore “it was decided to rein in the terms of engagement: Soldiers were ordered not to use live ammunition, unless they are facing a real and immediate life-threatening situation”. From this you can easily imagine the regular IDF TOE, when it does not fear a real and immediate Palestinian victory in the narrative wars. The tender care of the IDF for Palestinian lives is also underlined here.

Unfortunately, as the case of 17 years old Milad Sa’eed Ayash – who was shot and killed yesterday in occupied East Jerusalem – shows, the new orders take some time trickling down. The army, as everyone knows, is a conservative institute; and soldiers have a hard time accepting new orders, particularly ones that limit their freedom of operation.
