Israeli soldiers arrest a child during the weekly demonstration in Kfer Qaddum, a West Bank village located east of Qalqiliya, on January 25, 2013. There have been regular demonstrations in Kfer Qaddum since July, 2011, protesting the blocking of the main road east of the village which used to link it to Nablus. The child was later released. Two caravans form a new Israeli settler outpost on land belonging to the West Bank village of Jayyous, January 28, 2013. The structures were placed just one week prior, and are already being connected to water lines from the nearby settlement Zufin. All Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories are considered illegal under international law. The location was likely chosen to disrupt implementation of a 2009 Israeli court decision to re-route the separation barrier, returning a portion of Jayyous’s land to the other side of the fence, including the area that the outpost now occupies. Palestinians take pictures of children on the lands slated for confiscation in the West Bank village of Beit Iksa, January 26, 2013. The same day, Israeli forces demolished for the second time what activists called the protest village of Bab Al Karamah, erected by villagers to protest the confiscation of lands for settlement expansion. Beit Iksa is surrounded by settlements and is set to be entirely encircled by Israel’s separation wall, cutting it off from Jerusalem. When completed, the wall will annex 96 percent of Beit Iksa’s land. (Photo by: Anne Paq/Activestills.org)

Israeli soldiers patrol the separation barrier dividing land belonging to the West Bank village of Jayyous, January 28, 2013. An Israeli court decision in 2009 mandated the re-routing of the barrier to return some 2,000 dunums of village land, though 5,000 dunums would still remain isolated on the other side. The court’s decision has yet to be implemented. (Photo by: Ryan Rodrick Beiler/Activestills.org)
