He took in religious candidates to his party (and gave them high spots), took advantage of the frustration (including amongst no small number of modern Orthodox people) of the religious fanaticism (like what occured/s in Ramat Beit Shemesh), promised to fight for the middle/working class, and taking a mainstream stance on the conflict (i.e. wanting to go back to negotiations, but Jerusalem will remain united). In a nutshell, Lapid knew how to tell a high percentage of Israelis (from all walks of life) what they wanted to hear. What he is going to DO in the Knesset? That is a different ?

As it appears, one does not have to have a fully functional brain to be a commie.

I, as a “right-winger” who voted for Bayti Yehudi am quite encouraged by the increase in MERETZ’s vote…first of all, they are active in quailty-of-life and civil rights issues which are important, and it also means that the proposed shift of Jewish voters to anti-Zionist/Arab parties which many here at 972 trumpeted, didn’t occur.

If the Iranian threat and how to deal with Hamas are the top two concerns (as indicated in the Jerusalem Post), it will be important for Israel to be on good terms with the US administration, which Bibi has done nothing to encourage. I will be watching the upcoming AIPAC conference with interest; and the Hagel hearings in Congress the end of January too.
