  1. The fact that the two leading contenders for the leadership of the Labor Party are Herzog and Shelly indicates that they have given up the idea of being the ruling party and they will be contect being some sort of special-interest group. National leaders have to have background in the defense or foreign policy areas and neither of those two have any.
What “special interest group” they want to represent is still a question. Although they have called themselves the “party of the workers” for decades, their pool of voters has dwindled to the members of their kibbutz movement and well-to-do workers in the government bureaucracy. You can’t build a national movement on such a narrow base.

  3. I didn’t realise Sharon’s KADIMA Party is considered centre-left. Gee Whiz.

  5. This comment was edited. Please avoid using a tone that is unnecessarily rude and aggressive.

Katzav’s sentence will not be read on International Women’s Day. Also, perhaps you missed the article by Haaretz’s Yossi Verter; he thought about this issue and wrote about it two weeks ago.

  7. Dear 972-bloggers,

I understand removing comments with inappropriate use of Nazi terminology (though I don’t approve of this policy, but its your choice), but “editing” comments because of “rudeness” and “aggressiveness” is ridiculous. This isn’t kindergarten. This is The Internet where people might be exposed to the worst of human ignorance, bigotry, and hate. Let it be.
We are all adults here. You don’t have to make these threads PG-13.

  13. Whats the problem with that ? Maybe we expect to see a lady in the Prime Minister chair.
The question itself is telling you ” Isnt that weird ?!”

And it’s unrealistic to classify the Labor party under any category that holds the word “left” . You cant believe in the legitimacy of Israel in Palestine and consider yourself a leftist .

  15. Is Israel differant from other countries where there are fewer women in power than men, is that not the case in most countries?
If all countries have women as leader does that mean we will have peace in the world? It would be a nice thought but the truth is women are as uncivilisd as men, mores the pity!
