They are always human shields, all activists who go to East Jerusalem and the West Bank to protest the treatment of Palestinians are forced into that role. You should read who desecrates what in today’s Ha’aretz – it’s headline news:

Actually I do. The Arabs terrorists barricaded themselves in there and the western morons of the ISM became human shields. And the church wass desecrated. It’s what they do

You don’t. Evading Israeli military patrols to deliver supplies of rice, flour, salt and sweets to a church under IDF siege does not qualify as desecration in most people’s books.

Rachel – I don’t think I know anyone who denies that there was joint activism already in 2002-3, which is exactly when they started building the wall. Of course there was also joint activities even before, but of a very different nature, and on a smalled scale.

Absolutely no mention of ISM? Why do so many Israeli activists deny that there was Palestinian non-violent resistance bolstered by internationals and Israelis for a full three years before the beginnings of the wall? I mean, Rachel Corrie died in March of 2003…

SH, above, is right. That this series could be consolidated, made into something more. Sustained, it is 972 at its best, a new kind of media journalism. That people can form such resistence tells me that we have not yet understood the potentials of humanity very well. I continue to think that Israel/Palestine will give something to the world, after all the loss and hardship.

Haggai, thank you for this series. If you haven’t yet had comments on this piece it’s probably from being dumbstruck, as I was, after watching that video. Anarchists Against the Wall belie their name (a friend of mine from abroad was recently approached to donate and dubiously asked me about whether they were ok). If lawfulness is the opposite of anarchy, morally speaking, who were the lawful ones in that video? We live in an upside-down world here. The compass is broken.
