pps--I also love how Israelis called Fresh Water, Sweet Water. It's all about relative salinity, here. How sweet it is...

Yuval--when you said that you wouldn't be surprised if readers start to doubt you by now, I thought you were going to tell us about another insanely perfect experience that dropped into your lap; if you wrote them in a work of fiction, they'd often be considered overly perfect! That's why we need non-fiction, to expose actual perfection. I know, too, how the universe works: injustice aside (for a moment :) )--we invite our lives, our experiences. I'm grateful to be on the journey with you, for all you invite.
*
As if to prove my point, I actually wrote that comment after only having read the first paragraph of your post, before I read your writing of the world "perfection". (i'd scrolled down to comment, knowing I'd probably forget that by the time I finished reading). These things don't surprise me anymore. They used to, but not any more.
*
If you want your friends to believe you about Dead Sea Works--the raping industry who were actually good guys back in the day, when they put the Negev to work--like so many beautiful pioneer efforts gone back from greed--drive them by at night. It's a horror show. I wonder if Mairav finds it beautiful in a Coney Island meets Industry kind of way? I like that she finds it beautiful. Since my whole novel revolves exactly around this drama, I will save it. Off to listen to your youtube offerings. Thank you, Yuval and Mairav!

You're always finding ways to keep the format interesting, Yuval. Here I like how you create montages by interspersing your pics and Tine's illustrations with song lyrics. It heightens the experience of reading the account in the sense of "being there" as a fellow traveler. As to whether or not you're a miserable old conservative, I beg to differ. A conservative is one who is fine with the way things are. That does not seem an accurate description based on this and previous accounts. Neither do "miserable" and "old," but those would be more subjective. I suggest that someone who is miserable would not seek new experiences so boldly, and someone who is "old" would probably (though not definitely) not be found up a tree, as per the final pic of the Ein Gedi gardens.

"Who knows, in the end I may just be a miserable old conservative."
.
I don't think so. Thievery is not a beautiful concept even if its paraphernalia is graphically interesting. It made me think of a story an old man told me about someone from his rural village who visited a town for the first time near the beginning of the last century. "What's it like?" they asked him when he got back. "You can't tell", he said. "It's full of buildings".
