a lot of them have subtitles with the CC button. Hillarious even translated.

  3. the movement needs to take on the occupation / military spending, and needs to be in solidarity with Palestinians for social justice for all. or else.

  5. @Ami–thanks for pointing me to your earlier analysis. I don’t really *disagree* with anything you read, especially as of August 14th, at which time I was just so happy to see/hear/feel Israelis feeling empowered and mobilizing. The singular cause was an admirable one, and not the least bit petty.

But now. The fact is that the occupation cannot be separated out from economics, here. Quite the contrary.
    *
AND, with so many Israelis mobilized, and the worldwide Occupy movement, and the U.N. Statehood bid on the table, it see to be such a unique opportunity to try for joint (coordinated) Is/Pal demonstrations, something I never would have thought possible outside of Sheik Jarrah (for example) until recently.

the effects of such a joint movement (Israel would have to go first and invite Palestinians to join) would be tremendous. Palestinians long to feel our solidarity (even if they won’t say so), and Israelis desperately need out of this occupation, including, though not exclusively, for every single reason they are fighting J14.

And, we need to be FOR something, not just against something. The best way out of this mess–all of it–is the majority of moderate Israelis and Palestinians having a joint revolution. This would have such wide ripple effects, from how we are received in the entire region to our personal bank accounts.

  7. Let’s get real – Daphni Leef is the sexiest, most charismatic chick on earth! (I also endorse her ideologically.)

  9. I have heard from those who’ve met her that she’s both lovely and impressive. Her actions also prove the power of one person to make a difference. When she first took to the street, how many people would have believed that J14, and the scope of it, was possible in Israel? Occupy Wallstreet was clearly just as influenced by the details of Israel’s movement as by the overall current of the Arab Spring, and Wallstreet has lent a new level of solidarity to the Global movement. How would things have played out differently, all over the planet, had Daphni Leef not taken her tent to Rothchild? What does that tell us about each of our power, and all that’s possible?

  11. Ami: I hate to be -that- guy, but “a state of equality” is an incorrect translation, the proper translation would be “an egalitarian state”
