  • The world's blatant double standard - in Israel's favor

The American Studies Association may be singling out Israel for boycott, but if you look at the serious, painful punishments the world metes out to oppressor nations, Israel is not being singled out, it’s being let off the hook. As of Friday at noon, a Google search of “human rights sanctions” turns up over 40 million results. There are human rights sanctions and other punishments against China, Russia, Iran, Syria, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Yemen, Belarus, Cuba, North Korea and lots of other countries. And these sanctions weren’t put in place by some minor academic group like the American Studies Association, but…

  • Women's rights activist: We are reclaiming Judaism's holiest site

Anat Hoffman, longtime crusader for the advancement of progressive Judaism in Israel and a tireless activist for the rights of women to partake in religious traditions, was arrested last month while saying the Shma prayer at the Western Wall. Hoffman, the Executive Director of the Israel Religious Action Center and one of the founders of Women of the Wall (and a former Jerusalem City councilwoman) is no stranger to the law: it was the sixth time she has been arrested. • Pussy Riot: On freedom of expression, Putin has a partner in Israel

By Jonathan J. Klinger A few months ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin came to Israeli for a brief visit. The president, who receives embarrassing support from Israeli Minister of Foreign Affair Avigdor Liberman, and almost magical admiration from Knesset member Anastasia Michaeli, also received a warm hug from Israeli government leaders, first and foremost Benyamin Netanyahu. This welcome leaves no room for doubt that there is a strong link between the two states. But it was another embarrassing affair that Putin faced recently that demonstrates he is the one admiring Israel, and not vice versa. Israel is known for instances when its legal system falls victim to political constraints from the left…
