  • Collapse of local media gives Foreign Minister Lieberman the giggles

Nana 10 news reporter Omri Nahmias posted this picture to his Instagram account, of Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. During a briefing for journalists ahead of the Jewish New Year,  a reporter jokingly asked the minister what he thought about the current crisis the Israeli media is going through. Channel 10 - which is one of the owners of the Nana 10 website - is in danger of closing down, Ma'ariv is about to send 2,000 workers home before the Jewish holidays, and Haaretz is just barely hanging in there. Seeing as how the atmosphere was light and everybody was joking…

  • If gov't had its way, Israel would rightfully be on UN list of human rights abusers

By Hagai El-Ad There is no factual basis for listing Israel alongside countries like Zimbabwe or Venezuela, but that is not thanks to the government's efforts – which have fully pushed legislation against human rights NGOs; if the government actually had its way, then the recent condemnation of Israel by UN High Commissioner Navi Pillay would have been quite accurate. The Foreign Ministry was quick to characterize as "absurd" the recent statement by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay, who grouped Israel together with the likes of Belarus, Zimbabwe, Venezuela and other countries in the dubious club of…

  • Hasbara videо: The imaginative world of deputy FM Ayalon (UPDATED)

So this is where deputy foreign minister Danny Ayalon exists: In a vast white space populated by magically appearing and reappearing figments of his imagination. Why am I not surprised. I wonder if the comment about Israel not trying to occupy the Kingdom of Jordan  being a "painful compromise" is the official position of the Foreign Ministry, and if so, what do their Jordanian counterparts think of the image of all of Jordan with the Star of David on it. Hmm. Update: The video appears to be lifted straight off an earlier and equally ludicrous campaign by the flagship settler organization,…

  • What Liberman's remarks about Sykes-Picot mean

Israel’s Foreign Minister exposes Israel’s imperialist ambitions, own ignorance Our grotesquerie of a foreign minister, Avigdor Liberman, announced during the weekend that Syria is not a partner for peace. This did not draw much attention; we have become inured to Liberman’s provocation, and following Liberman’s appearance in the UN, when he pronounced his party’s platform to be Israel’s policy without being rebuked by PM Netanyahu, he would have to work hard indeed in order to get himself a headline in this category. But actually, Liberman did provide a headline; it’s just that the Israeli media missed it. As Didi Remez…

  • Danny Ayalon and UNESCO: Lies or Incompetence?

Twitter and Facebook messages announcing Israel's suspension of its contacts with UNESCO were released by the Deputy Foreign Minister hours after issuing a formal denial that blamed his spokeswoman for the original announcement Last night (Wed.) the Deputy Foreign Minister, Danny Ayalon, announced that Israel severs its contact with the international culture organization, UNESCO. This was a result, he claimed, of UNESCO announcing the sheikh’s tomb known to Israelis as Rachel’s Tomb to be a mosque. Which, by the way, is not the case. This took place on the same day in the Foreign Ministry announced it was suspending defense…
