Any government administration that uses police to intimidate and then persecute citizens engaged in public protest has much more to hide than even the protesters have discovered.

The police want to know how many cops to deploy, where and what kind of protests to expect. That way they can plan their resources, vacations, etc. As for preventing tent cities from forming.. This is primarily because tent cities become disorganized forms of popular entertainment rather than protest movements. They are anarchic by design and tend to have no representative representation that can be negotiated with because they attract the disaffected of all stripes who have no common cause. It is probably the least productive form of protest imaginable.

Congratulations, Haggai! I am very awed and encouraged by the J14 activists. This use of media is a powerful reminder of why we can’t allow corporate and state sources to dominate how the common person gets their news. If I was there, I would give each of you a hug and a “high five”.
