I remember back in 2008, all the Left/Progressive Israel-bashers were ecstatic...Obama's victory combinged with the Democrats gaining control of both Houses of Congress meant that (1) AIPAC was finishes and (2) The settlers were finished.
MJ Rosenberg and Richard Silverstein assured us of that. Sometime 972 bloggers Dr Bernard Avishai said that Obama was the most powerful and popular President since Eisenhower and since Ike forced out Israel from the Sinain in 1957, Obama would do the same with the West Bank.
What a difference 4 years makes!
In any event, ALL PRESIDENTS FOLLOW THE SAME POLICY regarding the Arab/Israeli conflict. No matter how anti-Israel a President may claim to be, he can't pretend the strong domestic support for Israel exists and that Arab oppostion to peace with Israel is ironclad. On the other hand, a candidate that makes all sorts of pro-Israel promises like moving the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem ends up realizing that the US has to have good relations with the oil sheikdoms of the Middle East. Thus the policy always , no matter how the Administration starts out claiming a "new approach", ends up being hectoring Israel about the settlements, quietly grovelling to the Palestinians and other Arab states to try to show some slight indication they really want peace with Israel, realizing that there is nothing the US can do to force an agreement and trying then to manage the conflict until the next election.

The amazing thing is that even though Romney is not a great candidate and has just gotten out of a mud slinging contest within the Republican Party he is still tied with Obama in the polls. The most important part about Romney is that it is easy to dislike him but really hard to viscerally hate him. This matters in America...
.

Obama might win, but it isn't going to be a cakewalk. The states he needs to win are not doing well economically and are not likely to give the 2012 Obama the same chance as they gave the shiny 2008 Obama. Obama's 2008 base is unenthusiastic at best and many will probably just stay home on election day. The people that hate Obama will come out to vote during a tornado for a metal bench if it is running on the Republican ticket against him.

Obama will win easily in 2012 because he will establish peace with Iran and give the zionist entity the shove. He cant do it now for domestic reasons, but we have high hopes for the future
