"Israeli politicians can’t keep secrets."
That's one of the funniest observations you've made here, K9. Journalists who were respectful enough to stay out of Netanyahu's hair while he sitting shiv'a and this stew was being cooked up are probably smiling ruefully too.

I've thought about it a little more and I really doubt that the Iranian issue has anything to do with this. If it had been an issue it would have likely come out by now. Israeli politicians can't keep secrets.

Interesting theory.. Alternatively one can consider that given the coming disputes over the Tal law, Ulpana and Migron, Mofaz expects to have plenty of ministries for Kadima MKs who might otherwise be forced to look for real jobs. It is also possible to consider Mofaz's options were elections to take place and leave Kadima with 10 seats rather than 28. In that case Mofaz and Kadima become an even cheaper commodity when they are competing with Lapid and Yachimovich for joining the coalition.
.

If Mofaz and Kadima manage to affect change on the Tal law, Ulpana and on some other centrist issues, Kadima can run in 18 months as a centrist party that managed to get concessions from the Haredim and the extreme right.
.

It is also possible that you are right and that an attack on Iran is coming within the next several months.

Maybe this unity deal will allow Netanyahu to tack to the center. Additionally Mofaz has been calling on Kadima to Join with Likud ever since the Elections. The only time that rhetoric changed was when he was running for head of Kadima. This move is consistent with Mofaz's Belief and should not come as a shock to anyone
